Klask is an independent French association creating and producing socially engaged documentaries. When I took on the project of building their new website, the first step was understanding what that space needed to be and what they wanted to build through it.

The idea went far beyond creating a portfolio. Klask wanted a living website that could grow alongside the association: sharing stories from shoots, announcing events, presenting ongoing projects and keeping a community of people interested in the same conversations close by.

But there was another essential part: it wasn’t enough to show what Klask produces. The website needed to explain how and why they do it. The subjects they choose, their relationship with the people they film and the way they think, create and produce are as much a part of Klask’s identity as the documentaries themselves.

They already had a logo, colours and years’ worth of material. From there, we worked together to find a way to bring films, photographs, texts and stories into a language that represented Klask and the way they work.

The result is a space that works both as an archive and as something constantly evolving: somewhere to discover what they have already made, follow what is happening now and understand the ideas running through everything the association does.

It was also a project I connected with deeply along the way. Seeing each member of the association recognise themselves in the final result was incredibly special, and I was very happy to contribute, through my own work, to a project I also believe in.
